Multiple organisations have sounded strong warnings regarding the development of autonomous weapons of war. The Future of Life Insitute, backed by the likes of Elon Musk. In an open letter published on their website in 2015, signed by thousands of scientists and prominent thinkers, they wrote:

“If any major military power pushes ahead with AI weapon development, a global arms race is virtually inevitable, and the endpoint of this technological trajectory is obvious: autonomous weapons will become the Kalashnikovs of tomorrow.”

This statement from just a few years ago now seems prescient – China and India have stealth drone projects underway while Spain and France have built their own autonomous military UAVs.

Last year, the Russian Post service launched a $20,000 delivery drone which spectacularly crashed into a wall just moments after being launched for its maiden flight. We look forward to bringing you more updates on this intriguing project in future.
