Hands-On With The DJI Agras MG-1

Derrick Threatt

WeTalkUAV was fortunate enough recently to get its hands on DJI’s new industrial workhorse – the DJI Agras MG-1 octocopter.

The device is made for use in precision agriculture – spraying fertilizers, pesticides, or anything that can be dispensed via liquid sprayer. It’s also tough: The machine is waterproof, dustproof, and can simply be hosed down after use.

Hi. What’s up everyone? WeTalkUAV here. Today we are going to have a quick demo of DJI Agras A.K.A. MG-1. It’s an octocopter with four spray nozzles and pump, perfect for precision application of liquid pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides. Let’s take a close look at how the nozzles work on DJI Agras.

It can lift up to 10 kilograms of liquid payload. Now let’s show you how to set up an auto routing feature. After takeoff we fly to our starting point and press “A” button on the RC. Now we have the A-point set. Then we fly to our B-point. Then press the “B” button on the RC. And we have our B-point set as well. Now we have to select Go Left or Right using the C1 or C2 buttons at the back of the RC. Switch the Orientation Mode to Smart Mode. Then you hold both C1 and C2 buttons for two seconds. The auto route function is now activated. The spray starts working as it flies along the route.

The AB line is the reference line of the route. Agras will keep flying back and forth along the reference line direction, aloft to the left or right every time it finishes one path according to the settings. Then it will start the next path. With a lot of path the Agras can cover a huge area in a short time. It can do about 7 to 10 acres per hour.
