According to Leiphone, a Chinese tech news site, EHang has already filed for bankruptcy in the US on Decemebr 29, 2017. In its bankruptcy filing, EHang cited assets of $100,001 to $500,000 and estimated liabilities of $1,000,001 to $10 million.

EHang bankruptcyLeiphone learned from a credible source that EHang filed for bankruptcy due to the following reasons:

  1. EHang could not position itself in the commercial drone market due to the poor product quality. They were forced to give up the consumer drone market as they could hardly sell.
  2. EHang which owes $1.5 million in office rent in the United States has been sued.

EHang was founded in 2014 in Guangzhou, China, the maker of Ghost Drone which pilots can control by tilting their smartphones. Its Indiegogo campaign has raised $860,000. However, EHang hasn’t earned a lot of media attention until EHang 184, a passenger drone. In the 2016 CES held in Las Vegas, EHang unveiled the low-altitude autonomous passenger drone, EHang 184 and has thus been awarded as one of “the Most Innovative Companies 2016” by Fast Company.Though EHang 184 stole the thunder from competitors, many people were skeptical about its passenger drone, having a concern about the security and legal issues.
