Unmanned systems manufacturer Drone America announced plans to scale its production of the Autonomous Air Tanker concept in a strategic alliance with Thrush Aircraft directed at developing drones for use in unmanned airborne wildfire control and surveillance.

The proposed autonomous air tanker will give firefighters another method of fire control to deploy against wildfires that could prove revolutionary for the industry.

Thrush has a large airframe and airborne delivery system that is expected to be combined with Drone America’s “Ariel” technology which is an amphibious platform to create a drone capable of delivering approximately 800 gallons of water or other fire depressant chemicals in an autonomous air tanker configuration.
