After about a month of use, Kinotika’s YouTube channel created a video explaining 10 things people should know before buying the new DJI Mavic 2 Zoom:

Zoomability

The 24mm-48mm zoom range on the new DJI quadcopter may not seem much at first glance, but it was practical and useful when Kinotika tested it. Typically, consumer drones are stuck with a fixed, wide-angle lens, so the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom increases versatility for everyday filming.

Zooming while orbiting can easily be done with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.

Dolly zoom

In movies like Vertigo and Jaws, the dolly zoom effect was used to draw suspense and drama. The dolly zoom effect can now be easily and accurately filmed using the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom’s built-in optical zoom with auto focus.

Sensor and lens

The Mavic 2 Zoom’s 1/2.3” CMOS sensor is the same size as original Mavic’s sensor, but its lens has a wider field of view at 24mm compared to the original Mavic’s 28mm lens.

Upgraded bitrate

Videos on the Mavic 2 Zoom can be recorded using the h.265 codec at 100 mbps, which is an upgrade over the original Mavic’s 60 mbps video capability.

High resolution mode

DJI equipped their 12 MP zoom drone with software that can automatically capture and stitch nine photos together, resulting in a 48 MP high resolution photo.
