DJI Mavic 2 series vs. DJI Mavic 1 series!

Upgraded obstacle avoidance

The Mavic 2 series has omnidirectional obstacle avoidance sensors installed on the front, rear, sides, above and below the drone. The original Mavic series only has sensors installed on the front and bottom, so the Mavic 2 series is less prone to crashing.

We Talk UAV crash tested the Mavic 2 Zoom, and even though it has omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, the drone still ended up crashing.

Upgraded tracking

The Mavic 2 Series has ActiveTrack 2.0, which is an enhanced auto-track feature that uses the main camera and front dual vision cameras to create a three-dimensional map of the area in front of the drone. DJI stated the improved tracking system on the Mavic 2 series can “predict the subject’s path up to three seconds in the future.” Even though all Mavic drones can track subjects, only the Mavic 2 series is designed to accurately track subjects at 44 mph.

Improved transmission system & controller update

Rated at a max range of 5 miles,Mavic 2 series has an updated OcuSync 2.0 system. Even though the controller on the Mavic 2 series has the same design as the original Mavic series, DJI said they’ll be releasing a Mavic 2 series controller with a built-in screen, just like the Phantom 4 Pro+!

Is it worth upgrading from the Mavic 1 series?

We Talk UAV’s Alex Assenmacher wasn’t a fan of the original Mavic series, but the Mavic 2 Pro is a serious contender for replacing his favorite drone: Phantom 4 Pro (v2.0). The 1” sensor coupled with an adjustable aperture were once features that the Phantom 4 Pro had exclusively, but now the Mavic 2 series has those features plus a foldable design.

Mavic 2 Zoom is an upgrade worth considering because of its versatility in different shooting conditions. As far as the best image quality possible, the Mavic 2 Pro is the upgrade to get over the Mavic 1 series because of its Hasselblad camera and adjustable aperture.
