DIY Phantom 4 PRO Obsidian Tutorial Video

DIY Phantom 4 PRO Obsidian Tutorial Video

The Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian has just been introduced at a German consumer electronics show called IFA 2017. It’s essentially the same exact drone as a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, but it does have a new color and an anti-fingerprint coating on the gimbal. The Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian is estimated to be released in September for around $2000. Currently, a DJI Phantom 4 Pro costs $1499, so the additional $500 for a drone paint job might not be a justified purchase, especially if you already have a DJI Phantom 4 Pro. With a few simple tools and some patience, you too can have your very own obsidian colored drone by following this DIY Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian tutorial video:

First off, this may void any warranty you may have, so keep that in mind! You’ll need some lacquer or enamel spray paint + primer mix, masking tape, 400+ grit sandpaper, mask to block off paint fumes, Allen wrenches, and some screwdrivers. You’ll need a 1.5 mm Allen wrench to be exact.

DIY Phantom 4 Pro Tutorial Tips!

Make sure to get any paint and primer color mix you prefer. Lightly spray paint 6-8 inches away from the object in a left to right sweeping motion, and follow the dry time instructions before applying a new coat. Also, cold weather significantly affects the spray, so make sure to spray paint on a nice morning if you do it outside. If you spray paint inside, make sure you have some sort of ventilation system since the fumes are harmful.

Don’t go cheap on masking tape, and take your time masking the areas you need to cover; this will ensure that any possible overspray doesn’t affect the covered areas. This isn’t included in the video, but finish the paint job with a top coat to seal your work because it will protect the paint job and make the paint look shinier or matte depending on the type you choose.
